This burger combines ground cumin, pepper jack cheese, and Secret Aardvark Smoky Chipotle-Hab Sauce for a deeply savory and delicious take on the classic American hamburger. Cumin powder gives this recipe a south-of-the-border flair (since it’s one of the main spices you’ll find in chili powder, it’s right at home with some habanero heat). Top with cilantro for the herby-green taste of summer.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Servings: 4 – 6

Ingredients

1 ½ pounds ground beef

1/3 cup grated onion

4 tablespoon Smoky Aardvark Chipotle Hab Sauce, extra to taste

1 tsp Kosher salt

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp black pepper

6 hamburger buns

6 slices of jack cheese

Cilantro for garnish

Instructions

Make the Smoky burger mix by mixing the ground beef, grated onion, Smoky Chipotle sauce, salt, cumin, and black pepper together in a large bowl. Mix gently, just until the ingredients are combined. *Do not over mix or the burgers will be tough.

Form 4-6 burger patties from the mix. Press a shallow indent in the middle of the patties to keep the burgers from puffing up while grilling.

Prepare your grill (gas or charcoal) for medium-high heat.

Place the burgers on the grill and cook with the lid down for 6-7 minutes. Open the lid, flip the burgers, and continue to cook for another 6-7 minutes with the lid down. Cook until the internal temperature is 140 degrees to 160 degrees.

When the burgers are almost cooked, place slice of jack cheese on each patty and close lid; cheese should melt in about a minute.

Place burger patties on a bun, add more smoky sauce to taste, Lettice, slices of avocado or cilantro!
