March 8th is International Women’s Day, and as a woman-owned business we wanted to highlight a few other women-owned businesses in the PNW that we’re enormous fans of!

Freeland Spirits

Also based out of Portland, OR, Freeland Spirits is a woman-owned distillery that makes some of the finest gin and bourbon we’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting. Plus, their bottles are absolutely stunning! About this time last year, we actually teamed up with Freeland Spirits to bottle and distribute hand sanitizer when it was impossible to find in stores. They made the hand sanitizer, and we provided the bottles.

Recommended Product: Freeland Bourbon

Fremont Brewing

Co-founded and owned by Sara Nelson and Matt Lincecum, Seattle-based Fremont Brewing leans heavily into environmentalism, sustainability, and community. Their urban beer garden is located in the (surprise) Fremont neighborhood and overlooks Lake Union and the Burke-Gilman bike trail, making it a popular spot for cyclists.

Recommended Product: Interurban India Pale Ale

Slice of Sauce

You might have heard us talk about husband-and-wife-owned Slice of Sauce recently. That’s because not only did they appear on Shark Tank and make a deal with J. Lo’s boyfriend, A-Rod, they’re producing a Secret Aardvark Slice of Sauce due to be shipped this year!

Recommended Product: Secret Aardvark Slices (well, of course!)

Art+Science Cider

Art+Science makes natural cider, perry, and wine using foraged, organic, or biodynamic fruit & fermenting with indigenous yeast in rural Yamhill County, Oregon. They started their label in 2011 and the following year bought 40 acres of farmland around their home where they began planting apple trees and pressing cider from foraged fruit.

Recommended Product: 2018 Wickson Cider

Hot Mama Salsa

In 1999 Hot Mama Salsa owner Nikki Guerrero moved to the Pacific Northwest from the Southwest. But she missed the flavors of home, so Hot Mama Salsa was born. The business grew and now Nikki produces salsa and hot sauce out of her small production kitchen in Portland.

Recommended Product: Chili Oil Variety Pack

Hotmaple

Hotmaple is exactly what it sounds like—hot sauce with maple syrup! It might sound weird, but what else would you expect from a Portland-based company? Neither overly sweet nor overly spicy, it’s a unique flavor that pairs well with every meal, not just breakfast.

Recommended Product: Bourbon Habanero

Marshall’s Haute Sauce

Another woman-owned hot sauce brand in Portland? You better believe it! Small-batch hot sauce brand Marshall’s Haute Sauce is still handmade and hand-stamped. If you love high-end hot sauce with no additives or preservatives, give them a taste.

Recommended Product: Gin Roasted Pepper

Clutched Key Collective

Moving away from food, Clutched Key Collective is a woman-owned branding and creative agency located here in Portland. They describe themselves as “a dynamic collective of designers, writers and strategists—both in-house and agency experienced—that specialize in telling successful brand stories by helping define your authentic voice, look and marketing strategies.”

Local Hero Media

By their own words, Local Hero Media is a one-woman full-service promotion machine. Founded and run by our dear friend Anne, she does everything from hand-drawn illustrations for wedding invitations to bold, graphic websites.

She Shreds Media

Formerly She Shreds Magazine, She Shreds Media is a woman/femme-focused guitar publication that seeks to elevate women in music. Founded by Fabi Reyna, its influence has led to a revolutionized how guitar brands and popular culture looks at female and femme guitarists.
